GradSchool: Texas A&M English PhD – Virtual Open House

Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to forward along the information below about an informational session on our PhD program. It is worth noting that, as of the last several years, Texas A&M has rebuilt its Writing Studies expertise and cohort, with a new set of faculty geared around its emerging specialties in medical rhetoric, science writing, digital humanities, and environmental communication. We now have established and emerging faculty working in this area:

  • Jason Crider – Computers and Writing, Environmental Humanities, Disability, Medical Rhetoric, Digital rhetoric

  • Joshua DiCaglio – Rhetoric of Science, Environmental Humanities, Digital Writing (see the Wikipedia project developed with students here)

  • Sara DiCaglio – Health Humanities, Science Writing, Disability

  • Andrew Pilsch – Digital Rhetoric/Humanities, Science Studies

  • Curry Kennedy – History of Rhetoric, Writing Programs Administration

Writing Studies exists across the curriculum at TAMU, and the English department has a relationship with departments across the university who offer science writing courses. Graduate students will be able to teach in our Professional Writing minor (many of our graduate students have taught our 300-level Technical and Professional Editing course).

Best,

Josh DiCaglio

On behalf of the Department of English Office of Graduate Studies at Texas A&M, I would like to invite you or your students to a virtual Open House on October 23, at 2:30 pm CST. To RSVP, you can click on the flier below or use the link here.

This meeting will inform potential applicants about our PhD program, including funding opportunities, our faculty specializations, and ongoing research initiatives, as well as to answer any questions about the application process. For more information on our program see our website here. Please share this information with potential applicants.

This is an exciting time for our department with twelve new tenure line faculty joining us in the last four years. We continue to see increased recruiting incentives and assistantship resources for our PhD students. In addition, new this year, we have a new program to fully support applicants who apply directly to the PhD without an MA, providing six years of funding and an opportunity to receive an MA in the process of getting their PhD.

If you know of a potential applicant who cannot make the meeting but are interested in our program, please do encourage them to reach out to us at engl-graduate-office.
