Colleagues,
Many of us have just returned from the 2026 Wildacres Conference, where we enjoyed gorgeous weather and a robust agenda allowing for conversation and collaboration. For those who were unable to join us, you were missed!
(A side note: apologies that some will receive this email twice, as I’ve sent this both to the listserv and to the Wildacres 2026 attendance list. Some who were new to the group as of last week may not have joined the listserv yet, and I want to make sure everyone is included. Visit http://lists.carolinaswpa.org/mailman/listinfo/cwpa_lists.carolinaswpa.org and use the form on the page to subscribe to the listserv.)
Save the date
Although the date is not firm, and we do not have a location yet, we are hoping to hold Meeting in the Middle on either February 11-12 or February 12-13. There is a date range as the Board is considering adding a 1/2 day (on the “front end”) to allow more time. This is not a “done deal,” (and it depends on several variables) so if you have feedback on that, please do let Magdelyn Helwig (magdelynhammond.helwig) and I know (sooner rather than later is better).
Board nominations
We have four board positions for which we will run elections in November. The first, President-elect, is by nomination of the board. We are accepting nominations for three positions from the membership:
- Secretary — The Secretary is responsible for taking detailed minutes of each board meeting and sending them to the board for review. The secretary is also responsible for knowledge of our constitution, and helping the board and president follow proper protocol for any elections or motions made during board meetings.
- Two Members-at-Large (one from NC and one from SC) — At-Large positions on the board serve multiple purposes. One is to ensure representation from both states (NC/SC). Another is to conduct out-reach within the representative state to recruit other members from NC/SC and community colleges.
To self-nominate, please send your name, the position for which you are interested, and a brief (150 words or less) bio to Robin (robin.snead). If you wish to nominate someone else, please secure their agreement to be nominated before sending your nomination including the nominee’s name, position for the nomination, and their bio. The deadline for nominations is October 30 and the election will run in early November.
Leadership transition
I will cycle out of the position of President at the end of December and will be succeeded by Magdelyn Helwig on January 1. Those who are elected to the positions listed above will begin their terms on January 1, as well.
As always, please reach out if you have questions or comments!
All the best,
Robin
