Greetings! We’re reaching out from Wiki Education, a nonprofit that provides free assignment support to hundreds of university instructors each term.
As you start planning for the spring, we wanted to introduce the Wikipedia Assignment, which may be a great fit for your course.
With the Wikipedia Assignment, students research a topic related to your course and find gaps in existing Wikipedia coverage, then write text and add citations to fill those gaps. Along the way, they develop skills in research, source evaluation, writing for a public audience, and collaboration while improving their understanding of knowledge production and AI’s limitations. Students often find the public-facing nature incredibly motivating.
If you’ve never edited Wikipedia before, that’s completely fine! In fact, most faculty who run the project haven’t contributed previously.
We’re now accepting courses for the spring 2027 term. Visit teach.wikiedu.org to learn more about our free support, explore FAQs, and apply for priority consideration by December 1.
Join an upcoming information session to hear directly from our staff and faculty who run Wikipedia Assignments:
