Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to an ideation session designed for those of you who work/live in Illinois or close to it. This ideation session will be planned around two events scheduled for December 10, 10:00-3:00 (online) and December 11, 10:00-2:00 (in person). If you are not able to attend either of these events, we welcome you to participate asynchronously.
Our goals for this session are in line with the other ideation sessions that have taken place in response to the dissolution of CCCC. But particularly, we are interested in exploring what takes the place of the yearly cadence and momentum that CCCC offered us as scholars and teachers of writing. Additionally, we would like to explore opportunities for working together at the regional level and to consider what we need to do our work that reaches beyond the resources that individual institutions provide.
We have envisioned these two days as both overlapping and complementary. The first day’s virtual session seeks participation from a wide range of people across the state. Then, during the in-person session on the second day, we envision a similar program to the online session but with sensemaking work that combines the material collected on both days.
The in-person session on December 11 will be located at Governors State University, in University Park, IL, which is in the South Suburbs of Chicago.
All who would like to attend these events are invited.
If you wish to attend one or both of these sessions, or if you wish to participate asynchronously, please fill out this registration form to RSVP, letting us know which sessions you are interested in attending. Additionally, if you are interested in participating as a notetaker, discussion leader, or in some other role, you may include that information on this form.
We look forward to talking with you all during these sessions and working collectively to envision what we need to thrive as teachers and scholars of writing working in Illinois.
Sincerely,
Bradley Smith, Professor of English, Governors State University
Erin Workman, Associate Professor of Writing, Rhetoric, & Discourse, Director of The Women’s Center, DePaul University
Stephanie Hedge, Associate Professor of English, Director of Composition, University of Illinois Springfield
